Did anyone say “mobile”? What can’t you do from your iPhone these days? Not much. And as of late 2014 more users are accessing the Internet via their mobile device than their desktop. Staggering figures, eh? How does your brand fit in or tap-and-slide in to the mobile access revolution?
2013 was a very unusual year in the PC market. For the first time since 2001, PC sales are projected to be lower than they were in the previous year. So which devices are consumers buying? Tablets, for one thing. Tablet sales are expected to exceed 100 million this year. Their sales numbers may top notebooks next year. Smartphones, of course, are also a hot commodity and according to Nielsen, most U.S. mobile subscribers own smartphones.
The shift to mobile is happening at break neck speed. Today, 30% of many website’s traffic is mobile and by the end of next year this may exceed half of all traffic being mobile based.
This is where “responsive design” and the “mobile market” come into play. From Zillow to Zappos and Alaska Airlines to Netflix – the mobile market is HUGE.
